Milestone photography

What Is a Milestone Session?
Photo sessions which take place in the first year of the baby’s life. These sessions can be done at any age but most popularly they are done at 6-8 months or once the baby is sitting up or at 12 months (cake smash session).
Each milestone is unique, and there are many reasons why you should think about the milestone sessions. You can schedule your appointment right HERE.

Why should you get Milestone sessions?
As a parent I will tell you, time goes by so fast. It’s really so cliche to say that but it’s true. My kids are now EIGHTEEN and TWELVE. I have no idea how we got here this fast!
If you are wondering if you should…. I say yes! You deserve it and so does you child(ren). Do you trust your memory to remember these precious moments to the fullest? I personally know that I truly cannot. Preserve these moments while you can. I personally cannot remember what either of my children looked like at this age unless I’m reminded by the photos I had done. I literally cry happy tears when I look at the photos. They remind me of how SMALL they were, the tiny smiles and their big personalities.

When do you get milestone sessions done?
Often we plan for the birth of our children, and the big 1-year cake smash- but what about all those months in between? The first holding the head up, sitting unassisted and standing up! These are milestone moments you don’t want to forget- you can’t recreate these photos, once the time passes its over. We rush towards these milestones and quickly regret they are here so soon. Milestone sessions document the milestones that are reached, capturing moments that will be gone forever and from your vivid memories before you know it.

Cake Smash Photo Session
The cake smash photo session takes place before the first birthday of your child, between 9-12 months.
The photos can be used for party invitations, decorating the birthday party, and as a beautiful memory of your baby’s first birthday.
The baby is placed in front of a big cake and allowed to do whatever he/she wants with it. As you can imagine, this results in a fun (and sometimes messy) scene. The ‘Cake Smash’ session can be the most enjoyable photo session for you and your baby.

Things you need to know before doing a kids/babies photoshoot:

-
It’s essential when photographing babies and young children that mum or dad is on hand. This will keep the kids feeling comfortable. I always ask mum or dad to stand behind me at the camera’s level and attract their child’s attention with silly faces, Making Obnoxious Animal Noises, dancing, games (try to find out what games makes him laugh the most) so that they’re looking in the camera direction and smile.

-
Clean, clean, clean, clean nails, clean hair, wipe away eye boogers, clean feet, wipe snotty noses, fresh-scrub teeth. The cleaner the kid, the better their photos will turn out.

-
If your child is still in diapers or pull-ups, tuck’em in or wear bloomers.

-
It is perfectly okay to bring bribes to a photo shoot, given a stage and being the center of attention, it’s like our kids know exactly when to act their worst. Some smarties or other tiny candy that won’t stain teeth can help a short photo shoot go by smoothly.

-
Bring toys! If possible, please bring your baby's favorite toys to play with during the shoot. It is all about distracting the baby. (Like teddy bears, some nice cars and fire trucks, or some girly tea cups with pretend cupcakes, etc...) Props that I believe do not look as nice in photographs are licensed toys from movies (because they go out of style quickly)

-
Be patient! Don’t try to make them do something they don’t want to. If a difficult situation occurs, first we try to take a break and leave the shooting area, and we have a mummy cuddle and/or a snack. After a few minutes we tried again.

-
Comfortable clothing! Consider the temperature and the comfort of clothes for the session. Clothes that are too tight can be hard to move and will make the baby fussy. If your baby hates shoes and it is summer time, let him be shoeless for some of the session.

-
Fill that belly! A hungry baby is a cranky baby. Be sure that your little one has had a meal recently and come to the session with a snack and water cup handy.

Sing Songs, Kids love music.
